NOTE: Our Brave Conversations are shifting to a new date and time on Third Thursdays (instead of second Tuesdays).
Please join our UTUUC Anti-Oppression Anti-Racism Committee and the Unitarian Church of Hinsdale’s Racial Equity Team for our monthly VIRTUAL Brave Conversations discussion.
This month in honor of Black History Month, we’re hosting a speaker from Naper Settlement to talk about the history of housing discrimination in the western suburbs.
Date | Time: Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 7–8:30pm CT on Zoom
Speaker: Andrea Field, Ph.D., Curator of History, Naper Settlement
Topic: Unvarnished: Housing Discrimination in the Western Suburbs
This presentation will cover discriminatory devices and tools used locally that prevented people of color and religious minorities from accessing area housing during the 20th Century suburban boom. Strategies in the suburban campaign for open housing will also be highlighted, including influences from corporations, churches and colleges.
