Congregational Life

While attending worship service is a very special experience, we find over time most members and friends of the congregation benefit by participating in opportunities that lead to deeper connections with one another. To meet this need, we offer a wide variety of congregational events and activities, small group opportunities, and volunteer roles. We hope you will try something that most closely matches your interests.

Our membership director, Tina Lewis, is readily available to get to know you, answer questions and assist you in making such connections. She may be contacted at or 708-848-6225 x102.

Connecting Conversations
Would you like to get to know more people in the congregation? Following worship service, sign up during Coffee Hour to have a 30-45 minute conversation with another person in the congregation. Click here for more information.

First Sunday Potlucks
On the first Sunday of every month, all are invited to bring a dish to share and join us for fellowship, food and fun after worship service in Fellowship Hall. Contact for more information.

Holiday Celebrations
All are invited to participate in our annual Halloween Party, Holiday Pageant, Passover Seder, and Easter Activities.

Homecoming Sunday and Celebration
Each year we kick off the new church year with a special service and celebration during Coffee Hour. All are welcome to join us for this joyful occasion.

Senior Connections (formally Purple Sages Pilot)
Those over 50 are invited to participate in this vibrant group of retirees who meet every other month to socialize, share their life experiences and talents, while continuing their love of learning. Contact for more information.

Annual Retreats
Weekend retreats offer a special opportunity for members and friends of the congregation to get away, build connections, share their talents and have fun together.

  • All Congregation Retreat - Multigenerational weekend of fun outdoor activities, nature walks, campfires, games, workshops, discussion groups, and quiet reflection time at Tower Hill Camp in Sawyer, Michigan adjacent to Warren Dunes. Retreat typically occurs the last weekend in October. Registration begins in early winter. Due to limited space, members receive priority in making reservations for this retreat.  Contact for more information.
  • Men’s Retreat - A weekend of topical discussions, interactions and workshops held at a retreat center in Des Plaines in January. The event, open to all men, includes a nature walk, drumming and plenty of fellowship. Register online. Contact for more information.
  • Women’s Retreat - A weekend every February of inspiring gatherings and fun activities for the women in our community to learn, connect, and renew their spirit. Register online now. Contact for more information.

Secret Pals
This very popular multigenerational activity provides an opportunity for youth and adults in the congregation to get to know one another and form new relationships. Pals exchange clues about themselves via code names over three weeks and eventually revel themselves at a big, fun party. Click here for more information.

Softball Teams
We have two awesome softball teams that participate in a local interfaith spring and fall league. The only requirement to join is a willingness to give it a try, the ability to run or trot, the desire to learn how to catch, throw and hit a ball and have fun! Contact for more information.
