Holiday Giving Party
Holiday giving- Family Faith in Action and the Women’s Goddess Group are sponsoring The Shoebox Project for the Shelters from 7-9 p.m. at 805 South Blvd. Before then, we will have a collection box at United Lutheran to collect shoeboxes and personal care necessities, gift cards, and small luxuries to put inside the boxes. We will decorate the boxes, fill them and write personal notes for distribution to Sarah’s Inn, The Primo Center for Women and Children and Housing Forward. Come for part of the time or all of it.
For women who have been displaced from their homes and estranged from their families, the holidays can be a particularly challenging time. Often, women feel disconnected from society, invisible and alone. Reducing the feelings of isolation and loneliness faced by women living in shelters is one of the most important outcomes of The Shoebox Project. The gifts we create are a powerful reminder for a woman that she has not been forgotten and that she remains a valued and respected member of her community. It is a small gesture of kindness that has an immediate and positive impact on the woman who receives it. The act of creating these gifts brings people together and works to give a human face to the broad issues of poverty and homelessness. We hope you will join us!
